Welcome to SteveVanEtten.com, the aptly named online home of web designer and professional writer Steve Van Etten. I recently attained my bachelor's degree in website development & design from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont and am actively seeking both full-time employment and freelance projects. Hiring me gives you both a fully skilled web designer and developer, as well as someone who can create and manage content for your company and/or individual project. In addition to my web design portfolio, I've spent a total of nine years working as a professional writer, split between the Hunterdon County Democrat newspaper in New Jersey and as a publicist for JPMC Music Inc. in Burlington. You'll find both examples of my web design work and my writing as you puruse the site.
I am well-versed in XHTML, CSS, Flash, XML, PhotoShop, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, MySQL, MS-SQL, ASP, and the art of relational database development, with an emphasis on front-end design and development. In addition to the sites I built while studying at Champlain over the past several years, I also did a couple professional sites for artists while working at JPMC Music. You'll also see that I've added a music reviews column here, as listening to, playing, and discussing music is my favorite distraction. Instead of music reviews, really, what you'll see here is the newest music at the top of my playlist. I've got a nearly insatiable appetite for new music, so I'm literally adding something new to my iPod on a daily basis.
